Now that you have registered for the Kaiser Permanente Running of the Elk, following is some information you may find useful:

Start Times: 

Running of the Elk Half Marathon and all Half Marathon Relay Teams: 8:00 am sharp!

THRIVE 5K: 8:30 am sharp!

Please allow enough time prior to the race start times to get to the starting line.

(Packet pickup is available on race morning starting at 6:30 am)

Sweat Check

A sweat check will be set up at the site area for you to leave your warmer layers of clothing, and retrieve after you finish. Please, no valuables, as we cannot be responsible for them. The sweat check will be secure until 12:30 pm.

On Site Registration & Packet Pickup 

You can pick up your race packet Friday, April 5th (3 p.m. to 7 p.m.) or Saturday, April 6th  (10 am- 6 pm) at the Running Zone (8470 Elk Grove Boulevard, Elk Grove).

NOTE: You may also pick up your race packets on Race Day as well starting at 6:30 am.

Parking Options

  • Main parking lot at Cosumnes Oaks High School (Map). Shuttles will take you to and from the starting line. Access to the lot will be closed around 7:30 a.m.
  • WalMart shopping center parking lot on Elk Grove Boulevard – right off of Highway 99.
Relay Exchange Parking (MAP)
The Half Marathon Relay Exchange will take place at the corner of Bruceville and Poppy Ridge Roads – the Purple square in the map. You can park in the parking lot at Bruceville and Whitlelock Parkway near the Starbucks! The Starbucks address is 10064 Bruceville Road, Elk Grove, CA  95757. There is no shuttle service to or from the Relay Exchange point.

The Courses

The Kaiser Permanente Running of the Elk features a Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, and Thrive 5K. Both the Half Marathon and the Thrive 5K begin and end at the same location. The Half Marathon Relay is the same course as the Half Marathon, split into two legs. Leg number one is 7.5 miles. Leg number two is 5.6 miles.Fluid Stations will be available on both routes approximately every 2 miles. Each station will include water and Gatorade. If you bring other nutrition with you during the event, (gels, bars, etc.), please be sure to either carry out your trash or dispose of it at a fluid stations.You can view the course mapes here.
There is a 4 hour time limit on the course. After which, the course will be open to traffic.

Results, Awards & Half Marathon Finisher’s Medal

The Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, and Thrive 5k will be timed using disposalbe chip timing. Two label-thin timing chips will be adhered to the back of your race bib. There’s nothing to put on your shoe or remove – simply wear your bib on the front of your body. Make sure it is not obscured by clothing or race belts.

At the start line, line up according to pace. 6:00/mile runners and faster should be at the front, and so on, with walkers and baby strollers/joggers in the back. No rush on getting to the start line right after the gun goes off – remember your time does not start until you cross the start mats.

At the race finish line, Half Marathoners will be awarded their beautiful, Running of the Elk Half Marathon finisher’s medal.

Half Marathon Relay participants will receive a finisher’s medal at completion of each leg. Rememer, the first relay leg is 7.5 miles and the second leg is 5.6 miles.
